KHAMSAS or HAMSAS are a staple of Morocan adornment traditions, they come in various shapes and sizes and all sorts of decoration.
These hand shaped pendants are highly apreciated amulets, once very popular in North Africa, Middle east and beyond.

Their history is tightly linked to religious beliefs: Khamsa means "5", some consider it an echo of the 5 Islamic pillars, other say that it is the caring hand of the propheet's daughter "Fatima" but while the truth many never be known, the origin of such talisman is as old as human artistic expressions linking the modern religion of islam to that of Carthaginian antiquity and even older to Neolithic cave paintings!

Protective, powerful, caring, nourishing, linking the gods, representating the self, magical...the hand can be all of this and so does the "Khamsa"!
