Etched Carnelian beads were created during the Indus Valley Civilization. Patterns were drawn on carnelian using natron, a substance derived from plants, and then fired at low temperatures of around 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. These beads have been discovered in archaeological sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, although it is believed that they were originally made in the Indus River region and transported via land and sea routes.
