These beads are from the Indus Valley Civilization. The patterns were drawn on carnelian using a natron solution derived from plants and then baked at a low temperature of around 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. While they have been excavated from sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed that they were originally produced in the Indus Valley region and transported via land and sea routes.
