In Africa, these beads are known as "Chacha Sowe." Millefiori, meaning "a thousand flowers" in Italian, represents a vibrant and intricate glasswork technique developed by Venice in response to the collapse of exclusive Eastern trade and the dominance of Bohemian glass in the European market. This decorative glass, known for its diverse color patterns, became a hallmark of Venetian craftsmanship. Venetian traders, already engaged in bead trade with Africa, fashioned these glasses into tubular beads for trading with African markets.
