Vintage 90s Isaac Mizrahi Party Dress Exploded Poppy Floral Print Documented Met Costume Institute
Sleeveless, knee length piece in photo print cotton, it features a nipped waist and a full, pleated skirt. Note the open back with the plunging V line! Closes with snaps and hooks at the small of the back. Fully lined. Scarlet red poppy with accents in block creates a bold visual statement in the front. The original black sash tie belt has parted dress with the original frock, alas, but it looks killer on its own!
My favorite part? There are hidden slit pockets at each hip!
This dress has been documented as a piece in the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Collection and dates to Spring 1992 (https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/81205).
It was featured in the 1995 exhibition Bloom, celebrating the collection's floral themed garments.
It is also mentioned on the Mizrahi website where we learn that it was part of a series of floral themed designs that were inspired by photographer Irving Penn. (https://www.isaacmizrahi.com/pages/brand-history).
Finally, you can find it in the current exhibition at the Costume Institute, "Sleeping Beauties" - https://www.timeout.com/newyork/news/the-met-museums-new-sleeping-beauties-fashion-exhibit-is-a-wonderland-for-the-senses-050624
