This is a 1960s black sheer lace dress with a squared neckline and 3/4 length sleeves. The skirt falls below the knee and has an inverted pleat drape at the centre back. The sleeves are kimono/ dolman style at the back but raglan style at the front. There is a waist seam and a centre front seam the whole way down the dress. The sleeves and neckline are finished with matching trim. Side metal zipper closure with a Lightning brand zipper.

The lightning zipper company was founded by the inventor of the zipper Gideon Sundback. He opened a plant in St. Catherine’s Ontario in 1937 and went on to manufacture millions of zips every year after zippers for clothing really took off in the mid 20th century. They were acquired by Textron in 1968 and continued operations there until 1981.

CONDITION: Good. There is a small tear at the split point on the back skirt pleat. Some red marks near the waistline. A hole on the back. All photographed.
