Stay cool in BoHo-artsy style in this pure cotton top from who-knows-when? 20's-30's?...
I have many, many years of experience when it comes to dating vintage clothing, but, alas! this is truly a mystery piece. The main body of this blouse is a medium-to-heavy weight pure cotton, woven with slubs (indicating a more rudimentary method of cotton combing, to make the fabric). The construction of the entire piece is done on machine, but with extremely tiny stitches, like that of a much older sewing machine (from the turn of the century). Lastly, the incredibly beautiful ruffle collar consists entirely of cotton hand-crochet lace, featuring scallop edging and zig-zag design in dark blue. The top of the neckline and armsyce (armholes) are finished with a thin cotton tape. The blouse was originally purchased at an antiques fair (with mainly older clothing and no pieces were more recent than 1950's). So, my best guess is an age range from 1920-1960 and it may be of Central American origin. It is in excellent condition, very strong and wearable with an extremely light and unnoticeable stain, plus teeny tiny break in the weave, near lower left side (see last pic).
