Chevron beads are a unique bead-making technique invented by Maria Valover in Murano, Italy, in the late 1400s. While Venetian bead techniques often draw from ancient methods, Chevron beads are an original Venetian creation. Up to ten layers have been discovered in these beads. Blue is the most common color, while red, green, and black are rarer and highly sought after. The term "Chevron" means "V-shaped," and these beads are also known as star beads or rosetta beads. They were later produced in the Netherlands as well.
