Etched Carnelian beads were crafted during the Indus Valley Civilization by applying patterns with a liquid derived from plants known as natron and firing them at low temperatures of approximately 300-400 degrees Celsius. While these beads have been excavated from sites in Mesopotamia and Afghanistan, it is believed that they were originally produced in the Indus River Valley and transported overland and by sea.
