Back in 1970-something, there was a girl who wanted more than anything to have a Laura Ashley skirt like "all the other girls were wearing." As it would be, she simply didn't have the means to buy one, so she—being the creative and resourceful gal she was—decided to buy LA fabric and make one herself.

I was such a girl—not with Laura Ashley's but with other things, so I can relate to her plight. I was also in 4-H and used to sew so I'm wondering if this was perhaps a 4-H project...if THAT'S how she convinced her mother to let her buy the LA fabric and make it herself. If so, I do hope she won a blue ribbon for her project because she did a fine job indeed and I'm certain this skirt was in constant rotation.

How do I know this is Laura Ashley fabric? I'm fortunate to live in an area rich with Laura Ashley's so I've done a bit of research. One time, I got into a discussion with someone on the Vintage Fashion Guild message boards who claimed LA never had insects in her designs. "Ummm, yes, she did," I replied and was able to provide screenshots with proof. Thus, imagine my surprise when not a month later I was perusing the racks of a thrift store and found this little white darling. Ah-ha! No tag, but definitely a Laura Ashley print—complete with insects.

So, if you're interested in a sweet little lovingly homemade LA fabric skirt, this one is in excellent condition and just begging to be paired with some cute shoes and worn out and about again.
