Kanbayashi Shunsho Honten is a historic tea house in Uji, Kyoto, with a lineage stretching back more than 450 years to the late 16th century, when the Kanbayashi family served as official tea masters supplying Uji tea to Japan’s ruling elites. The Kanbayashi family is one of the few surviving families descended from the original Uji tea masters who were appointed during the Edo period to produce and supply high‑quality tea for the shogunate. Their long involvement in official tea production helped establish Uji as the region most closely associated with Japan’s finest green tea.Today, under its 14th generation, Kanbayashi Shunsho Honten continues to produce ceremonial‑grade matcha, gyokuro, and other traditional teas using time‑honored methods, maintaining its status as one of Japan’s most respected and enduring tea houses.
Komatsu no Shiro is a matcha favored by Mushakōjisenke’s grand master, Mushakōjisenke Iemoto, Jimyōsai of Fushin‑an. Mushakōjisenke is one of the three Sen tea schools descended from Sen no Rikyū, the founder of the Japanese tea ceremony.
