Era: 2500 BCE to 1800 BCE
Originating from the Indus Valley Civilization, these carnelian beads feature designs created using a natron solution derived from plants. The designs were then baked at low temperatures of about 300 to 400 degrees Celsius. While such beads have been excavated from Mesopotamian and Afghan sites, they are believed to have been produced in the Indus River basin and transported overland and by sea.
