Product Description: This is a strand of Millefiori glass beads.
Dating back to the late 1800s to early 1900s, Millefiori beads originate from Venice. The technique used to create these intricate beads involves either mosaic application or mosaic inlay. In Africa, they are known as "Chachasso." The term "Millefiori" is Italian for "a thousand flowers." After the collapse of exclusive trade with the East, Venetian glassmakers, facing competition from Bohemian glass, developed these colorful decorative glass pieces to revive their economy. Millefiori glass became a hallmark of Venetian craftsmanship. European merchants, who were already engaging in bead trade with Africa, fashioned these glass pieces into cylindrical trade beads, which were then transported to Africa.
