Product Description: This is a large faience Warring States period glass bead, featuring exquisite craftsmanship that highlights its artistic value. Made from ceramic-like faience, this bead is a remarkable collector's item.
Warring States Beads, also known as 【Warring States Beads】, were crafted during the Warring States period (5th to 3rd century BCE) before China was unified by the Qin. The earliest Chinese glass beads were discovered in Luoyang, Henan Province, dating back to the 11th to 8th century BCE. However, it wasn't until the Warring States period that glass products began to circulate more widely.
Early Warring States beads were primarily made from faience, a ceramic-like material decorated with glass patterns. Later on, entirely glass-made beads were also produced. Common motifs included "Seven Star Beads" and "Eye Beads," characterized by their spotted patterns. Although the techniques and design elements were influenced by West Asian Roman glass, the materials used in Chinese beads from this era differ in composition, showcasing the advanced glass-making techniques of ancient China.
These beads hold significant historical value as they mark the beginning of Chinese glass-making history. Their intricate designs and vibrant colors have garnered a large following among collectors and enthusiasts.
