c.1950s Vintage Tudor Dress Watch in a Military Style - Chrome Topped Case -  Ivory Dial with Elegant Black Lozenge Hands - Unusual Military Caseback Markings

In 1926, “The Tudor” was registered as a trademark by a watch dealer called 'Veuve de Philippe Hüther'. Hans Wilsdorf, the founder of Rolex, took over “The Tudor” brand in 1936 with a desire to offer his retailers an alternative, more affordable range of watches to be sold alongside his legendary Rolex timepieces.

Tudor has become a prestigious brand in its own right in recent years, delivering style, Swiss watchmaking know-how, and exceptional value. Whilst Tudor has often been overshadowed by Rolex, they have a character of their own and offer much for the style-conscious watch buyer.

The interest in the brand has also seen a renewed interest in Tudor vintage models such as this elegant chrome-topped dress watch. The stylish ivory dial boasts graceful black lozenge hands and applied Arabic numerals. The dots of lume on the hour plots have taken on a rich caramel hue and the minute dial is crisp, as is the Tudor "Small Rose" signature and emblem. There are signs of wear to the case, however nothing unexpected from a watch of this age. The subtle crown is engraved with the Rolex emblem as is synonymous with Tudors from this era. This watch has nice proportions and wears well, it would carry the wearer seamlessly from everyday wear to a more formal occasion. 

The caseback is engraved with RNTF No.117 ^1755 which appears to be a reference toward the Royal Navy Torpedo Factory, however, we are unable to substantiate this with any certainty - please do contact us if you feel you can shed any light! 

In any case, this is a nice piece from an illustrious brand with a more than prestigious bloodline - a nice addition to any collection.
