Chevron beads were invented in the late 1400s by Maria Varover of Murano Island, Italy. While Venetian bead-making techniques often derive from ancient methods, the Chevron technique is uniquely Venetian. Chevron beads have been found with up to 10 layers, usually in blue, while red, green, and black variants are rarer. The term "Chevron" refers to their characteristic V-shaped patterns, and they are also known as star beads or rosetta beads. The manufacturing of Chevron beads later spread to the Netherlands.
