“Keeper of the Keys”

Not many people in our time manage to create something which is very accessible and also original. With a touch of country, a dose of folk rock, an open and inviting sound and a wealth of good ideas, Kristin Fjellseth has made an album that reveals this special quality. Each of the tracks opens a window on an attractive and yet mysterious landscape where we see things we recognise and also things that surprise us. 

“Keeper of the Keys” shows that Kristin has something she wants to tell us. If you give her time and open to the panorama of her lyrics and music, you’ll easily find that her songs are windows that open moods of sadness, beauty and small puzzles to ponder and gain insight from.

In the studio Kristin has five talented musicians with her who have helped to refine the songs into precious jewellery: Ellen Andrea Wang (double bass), Arne Henry Skullerud (percussion, drums etc.), Benedikte Narum Jensen and Stina Kjelstad (choir) and John Anders Narum (guitar). 

Kristin Fjellseth, from the rural town of Gjøvik, has written and performed her own songs and lyrics for almost 20 years. She has also found her special way of 

performing her material with the kind of calm strength that will put the listener at ease, but also with smouldering undercurrents that create a constructive tension. 

Kristin has been awarded several grants, among others from Tekstforfatterfondet [The Songwriter’s Fund], TONO (the Norwegian collective society/performing rights organisation) and the Gjøvik Music Region. She has written music for the drama series Himmelblå [Blue Sky Blue] featured on the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation, held a number of concerts, and toured Norway, Europe and the USA, released the album Golden Heartbeats, contributed to the Christmas record from the Salvation Army, and been played on radio stations in Norway and abroad. She made her first recording as a 16-year-old, and has been featured on more than ten recordings, including with the Pale Forest band, Anneke Van Giersbergen from the Netherlands and Anti Atlas from Britain. “Keeper of the Keys” is Kristin's first record on KKV. 

Kristin Fjellseth's day job is teaching in primary school, but the songwriter, singer and guitar player in her is always present. She is one of the many fascinating artists who commute between a career as an artist and a daytime job to butter her bread.

“Keeper of the Keys” was recorded in East Lake Studios in Gjøvik with producer Jon Anders Narum. In October last year she released the single “Shine”, a tribute to those people who strive to use their radiance to do good for others.
