Jørn Simen Øverli is well known for his powerful interpretations of the Russian guitar-playing poet Vladimir Vysotskij, and for his new interpretations of Alf Prøysen's songs.
On this new CD project he performs German poetic songs from the mid 1900s, featuring the writer Bertholt Brecht, and the composers Kurt Weill and Hans Eisler. Bridging the genres of contemporary modern music and the music hall tradition, their songs are filled with scathing comments on the political situation of their day. On the CD "The encouraging effect of money" Øverli brilliantly demonstrates how these songs also make a deep impact today as meaningful and powerful statements in our own volatile times. Joining Øverli in these innovative musical arrangements are Stian Carstensen on accordion and Arve Henriksen on trumpet.
This is a delightful CD where all the songs have been translated into Norwegian by Jørn Simen Øverli. The producer is Erik Hillestad.
