The Chevron bead technique was invented in the late 1400s by Maria Varoveer on the island of Murano, Italy. While many Venetian bead techniques are adaptations of ancient methods, Chevron beads are uniquely Venetian. Chevron beads can have up to 10 layers and are often blue, while red, green, and black variants are rarer. The technique later spread to the Netherlands. The term "Chevron" means "V-shaped" and these beads are also known as star beads or rosetta beads.
