The Millefiori technique dates back to the late 1800s to early 1900s and originates from Venice. The name "Millefiori" is Italian for "a thousand flowers," reflecting the intricate, colorful designs of the beads. This technique involves crafting glass beads using mosaic application methods or by incorporating mosaic patterns into the beads. In Africa, these beads are known as "Chachaso." The creation of Millefiori glass was a strategic response by Venetian artisans to the economic impact of losing their monopoly on trade with the East and facing competition from Bohemian glass. Venetian traders, who had already established bead trade routes with Africa, produced these decorative glass beads in tubular forms and transported them to Africa as trade beads.
